Summer is supposed to be a time of sun, fun, and family… Don't let scammers spoil it.
Here are some tips to help avoid phone scams:
1. If it sounds suspicious, trust your gut! It probably is. Hang up, and call us at 936-825-5100.
2. We will never call you requesting payment immediately. This is a scam. Your disconnect date is printed on your bill. If you have a question or concern about your bill, we are happy to help. Simply call us at 936-825-5100.
3. Scammers may ask you to provide a pre-paid credit card number. Mid-South Synergy will not. Do not provide the number.
4. Beware of callers promoting "federal programs" to help pay your energy bill. Hang up, and call us. We have trusted agencies that are ready and willing help if you need assistance.
5. If someone asks you for your full social security number or bank account information, this is most likely a scam. Mid-South Synergy will never ask for this information over the phone. When you call Mid-South Synergy and request information on your account, you will be asked to verify ONLY the last four letters of your social security number for privacy purposes. If we need further information, we will ask at that time or mail you a form to return.
6. Scams seem to increase around peak summer and winter months. Be alert.
7. These phone scams are not a new issue, and will most likely continue to be a problem. Please make your family and friends aware.
Keep you and your family safe from phone scams. If you experience a suspicious call, with someone pretending to be a Mid-South Synergy employee, please don't hesitate to contact us! While we have not experienced a large number of reports, our Members' safety and privacy is our top priority… we urge you to stay alert.
