AUSTIN – Mid-South Synergy and Line-Tech Inc. have partnered with Blinn College to provide job training using a $267,648 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

The grant will be used to custom train 179 new and incumbent workers in areas including water and wastewater operations, distribution line installation and removal, communications, metering, and electrical transmission and distribution. Those trained will include groundsmen, linemen, foremen, line supervisors, operations technicians, and administrative support supervisors. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $18.80.

“This Skills grant reflects an important partnership forged between Blinn College and these local employers,” said Texas Workforce Commissioner Representing Employers Hope Andrade. “The training that will result will allow these companies to grow their workforce and will give employees from this region the opportunity to advance their skill sets.”

From the program’s inception in 1996 through 2012, Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 286,000 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 3,901 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature appropriated $48.5 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2012-13 biennium.
